Track and Field Event Held at CWU



The 19th Track and Field Event of the China Women’s University (CWU), located in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, was held on April 24. In what was a balmy and enchanting spring scene, a competitive track and field meet themed “Youth, Sports, Excellence” kicked off on the CWU campus.

Li Mingshun, professor and Chairperson of CWU University Council, and Liu Meng, professor and CWU vice president, attended the sports meet while all faculties actively participated in the event. Zhang Meirong, director of the Moral Education office of Third Elementary School of Hepingli led first-grade teachers and students to take part in the opening ceremony performance. The Third Elementary School of Hepingli is one of the Elementary Schools that CWU has been partnered with, Some of CWU faculties and on-campus students had been called for to be assistant teachers there, because of the Beijing Universities and Elementary Schools Partnership-Building Initiative.

Thirty-one square formations comprised of both teachers and students made their way out onto the playground. Li Mingshun delivered opening remarks, extending his warm congratulations for the organization of the momentous sports meet and conveying his sincere greetings to all athletes, judges and working staff. He underlined that physical education constituted a critical way to cultivate students with all-around development and that the theme of the meet projected a very human-oriented concept. Finally he expressed his hope that all athletes would give full play to their strength and spare no effort in striving for outstanding achievements.

More than 1,000 students participated in 17 individual events and three group events, and around 500 faculty members took part in 48 competitions divided into four age groups. On the field, judges, athletes and cheerleading squads fully enjoyed the joys brought about by the spirit of sport. Winners of different groups emerged through fierce competition, upon the conclusion of which CWU authorities presented certificates of honor and trophies to the winners.

Liu Meng extended her warm congratulations to groups and individuals who won their competition and her sincere thanks to all the athletes, judges and working staff. She said that the annual sports meet was an important measure in implementing CWU education ideology, improving moral education and promoting the all-around development of students. She anticipated that all the teaching staff would find happiness and excitement, together writing a new chapter of the development of CWU as a first-class women’s university.

At this the school’s 19th track and field meet, teachers and students fully displayed their broad spectrum of talents. From bass drum playing to bodybuilding exercise; from fencing to wushu exercise, the event truly exhibited the achievements in active sports participation by the university’s multitude of clubs and sub-communities.
