CWU Holds 2015 Sports Meeting for Freshmen
On October 20, China Women’s University (CWU) held the tenth autumn sports meeting at the north campus. The theme of the event was “Sports Mobilizes Students, Exercise Promotes Development”. Ma Liang, director of the Physical Education Department, presided over the opening ceremony.
Teachers and students from different schools and departments formed an athletes parade. They dressed in colorful clothing, held cards with their professional characteristics, and walked at a robust pace.
Song Shengju, CWU vice-president and director of the Sports Committee; Ma Yu, deputy director of the Students’ Affairs Office; counselors from the Children’s Education and Development School, and president of CWU's Sports League were invited to participate in the event.
At the opening, Song pointed out that the school combines sports culture with education. Sports meeting are a good place for celebrations and a stage for dreams. They help to inspire freshmen to participate in cultural and sporting activities and gain useful knowledge and skills from them, she said. It also carries forward the Olympic spirit, and reflects freshmen’s spiritual outlook and primary achievements of the pilot project, added Song.
After wonderful displays of taekwondo and a "dazzle dance", more than 600 athletes from 21 majors at the north campus participated in the 100 meters, 400 meters, 1500 meters, long jump, high jump, six-person cyclone run, relay and other events.
After the fierce competition, students from the majors of Pre-school Education, Sociology, Computer Science and Technology, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management and Law won the top six places. Students from other majors got the Physical Education Morality Awards, including Finances, Financial Management, Cultural Industry Management, Applied Psychology, and International Education of Chinese.
Guo Chunhong, director and secretary of the General Party Branch at the north campus, delivered the closing speech. She hoped that freshmen could cherish their first year on campus, bring the spirits of solidarity and persistence into classrooms, morning exercises and daily life. She also asked students to develop a good style of study, lay solid foundations for the realization of their dreams, and create a more brilliant life.
Slogans of “Love CWU, Refining Skills, Showing Talents, and Constructing CWU” and “Beauty, Intelligence, Healthy, Diligence” fluttered in the wind in the playground. They inspired students to play with full enthusiasm, and promote the healthy development of mass sports in the school through practical actions.
