CWU Holds 2015 Commending Assembly on Volunteering
On November 25, China Women’s University (CWU) held its awards ceremony at the main lecture hall. Participants included Qian Song, vice-minister of the department for large events, the Social Sport Management Center of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports; Zhang Ruizhi, Secretary of the CWU Youth League Committee; secretaries from the general branches of the Youth League from different schools and departments; in addition to nearly 300 commended students.
Zhang summarized the university’s efforts and achievements in promoting the construction of its volunteer team and management system; strengthening the efficiency of daily activities; and, reforming the content of services. Zhang also determined the future of its development orientation and the institution's work objectives.
Representative and secretaries read out the university’s decision on the commendations for this year's outstanding volunteers, service projects, and advanced units. The leaders presented awards to four advanced units, four outstanding projects and 218 outstanding volunteers. Representatives from the volunteer and usher teams of the Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall delivered speeches at the ceremony, along with those from the International Association of Athletics Foundation.
Qian expressed his heartfelt thanks to the university’s high attention to volunteer work, and affirmed CWU’s achievements. He said that he had worked with CWU’s students during the IAAF World Championships, and was touched by their hardworking and dedicated spirit. Qian hoped that the students would cherish their precious volunteer experience, continue to carry forward a dedicated spirit into their future lives, and leave no regrets.
At the end of the ceremony, Zhang congratulated the prize winners, and put forward three demands. Firstly, the volunteers should persist in volunteering and contribute to building a civilized, harmonious, honest and friendly society. Secondly, they should keep improving their self-capability, innovating practices, and attracting more diverse students into such activities. Thirdly, the university should fully support, offer an inexhaustible driving force, and create a favorable atmosphere for the development of volunteer services.
The event came to an end with a warm applause. In future, volunteers will start at a new point, work together to carry forward the spirit of “dedication, love, mutual aid and progress”, and strive to open up new dimension in the university’s volunteer affairs, organizers said.
