The academic lecture themed “The Practices and Reflections of Gender Mainstreaming” was held by School of International Education on October 31th, 2017. The lecture was given by Ms. Du Jie, the deputy director of Institute of Women’s Research of All-China Women’s Federation. 2017 Mofcom Foreign Aid Degree Program students of China Women’s University attended the lecture. The lecture introduced China’s gender mainstreaming practices so as to let the students’ have deeper understanding of the local situations of gender mainstreaming in China.
Firstly, Ms. Du Jie introduced a series of efforts that UN made for achieving gender equality pursued by all people in the world. She also introduced the 2015 global summit of women held by China and UN women, and analyzed four propositions raised by Chairman Xi Jinping in the summit one by one. Du Jie then mentioned China’s series of efforts for supporting global women’s careers and the work of UN Women, including helping developing countries carry out the 100 health project of women and children; inviting 30 thousand women to come to China to participate in trainings. After that, she introduced the basic national policy of gender equality and the implementation of anti-domestic violence law. Finally, Du Jie discussed her researches and thoughts on China’s practices, which brought the lecture into heated discussions.
The students expressed their opinions from different aspects. They responded the lecturer with their considerations and feelings about China’s practices, and related to the cases of their own countries. The lecture ended in warm atmosphere with heated discussions. After the lecture, the students expressed their willingness to bring what they learned in the lecture to their country, and hoping it could be used in their local practices.
